The Surigao del Sur Water District Association, Incorporated (SURWADA, Inc.) held its 5th SURWADA SPORTSFEST on October 24-26, 2018 at Lianga, Surigao del Sur. A three day event hosted by Lianga Water District (LIWAD) anchored with a theme “PROMOTING SOCIAL INTEGRATION AND BETTER RELATIONSHIP AMONG OFFICERS AND EMPLOYEES OF THE LOCAL WATER DISTRICTS THRU SPORTS.”
On October 24, 2018 at exactly 1:00 o’clock in the afternoon started by a Thanksgiving Mass commemorated by the Holy Child Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Juanito A. Rosales, Jr. The Opening Ceremony was officiated by the Overall Committee Chairman, GM Wilfredo G. Sanchez. The Regular entry for sports like: Badminton (Doubles Men), Badminton (Doubles Women), Badminton (Doubles Mix), Table Tennis (Single A & B), Chess, Dart, Dama, Lawn Tennis, and Larong Pinoy (Kadang-kadang, Pig Race, Bakya Race & Tug-off-War) started at 3:00 o’clock in the afternoon. Welcome Dinner was served at 6:00 P.M. at Prospero B. Pichay, Sr. Sports and Cultural Center, Lianga, Surigao del Sur and the entry for Doble Kara became the highlight of the event.
October 25, 2018 is the continuation of the games like: 5K Run, 3K Run and Zumba Marathon which started at 4:00 o’clock in the morning. Games like Plumbing Olympics, Basketball, Blind Volleyball, 3-Point Shoot-out (Women) and Free-throw shoot-out were also slated in this day. Fellowship Night started at 6:00 P.M. at Prospero B. Pichay, Sr. Sports and Cultural Center, Lianga, Surigao del Sur which was graced by the Dance Competition.
This is the first time that SURWADA Sportsfest proclaimed winners. 5th Place awarded to Cantilan-Madrid-Carmen Water District (points), 4th Place to Hinatuan Water District (Points), 3rd Place to Bislig City Water District (Points), 2nd Place to Tagbina-Barobo Water District (Points), 1st Place to Tandag City Water District (Points), and the hailed CHAMPION was the host Lianga Water District (Points).
In spite of the very competitive sportsfest still the SURWADA members’ water districts manage to uplift the spirit of sportsmanship and camaraderie. They enjoyed and wear a great smile on their faces because of the hospitality and accommodating people of Lianga.
